The dam was completed in 1968. It holds 1,628,000 megalitres (million litres).[1] The wall height is 112 m and is constructed of earth and rockfill. The water from the dam is used for irrigation along the Murrumbidgee River, Yanco/Colombo/Billabong Creeks system, the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and the Colleambally Irrigation Area.

In 1978, Ken Warby set the Water speed record of 511 km/h (317.60 mph) on Blowering Dam.[2]

Upgrade

On 23 April 2009, New South Wales Government announced Macmahon Construction was the successful tenderer for A$33 million for parapet wall and spillway modifications, to prevent flooding in the future, which are due to begin in May 2009 and completed in 2011.[3]
